Dhaka is mainly located in the middle point of Bangladesh. It is located in the great deltaic region of the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers. Dhaka is located at 23°42′0″N 90°22′30″E in central Bangladesh. This city is mainly bounded by Rajbari, Narayanganj, Manikganj Gazipur, Tangail, Munshiganj district. Nearly 80% of the annual average rainfall of 1,854 mm (73 in) occurs between May and September. Dhaka city is bounded by the Buriganga River. The total area of the city is 1463 sq. km. 

History of Dhaka City

Dhaka City previously spelled Dacca. The city was known as Jahangir Nagar under the Mughal rule in the 17th century.  It became the provincial capital and a Centre of the worldwide muslin trade. Dhaka also became the modern city and more developed during British rule in the 19th century at all. It also became the second-largest city in Bengal Kolkata. Dhaka became the capital of the new area of Eastern Bengal and Assam After the Partition of Bengal in 1905. After the division of India in 1947, Dhaka became the administrative capital of East Pakistan. Finally, in 1971, Dhaka was the capital of an independent Bangladesh.
